My Story

My name is Valerie and animals are my passion, with a very special place in my heart for dogs!

With over 17 years working in the boarding kennel industry in both in the UK and here in NZ, including working at a RSPCA rescue and rehoming center. This has given me an extensive range of knowledge and experience in animal care for many different types of animals, and many with special needs.

I have a common sense yet intuitive approach to animal care that is based on respect, understanding and compassion for all life. The following quote sums up my philosophy quite well..

My greatest training came in 2013 when I adopted a 5 month old black Labrador from the local pound. Sometimes we are lucky enough to encounter an animal that can change our lives.

Dexter's Story

In 2014 a freak accident followed by extensive spinal surgery left Dexter with paralysis in both of his back legs.
His courage in the face of what we had to do to rehabilitate him was truly inspiring and spurred me on many times whenever I doubted myself.

A year later we had the pool made so he could exercise more regularly and help him continue to build greater stamina and fitness.

I'll be forever grateful for all the practical learning and deep personal lessons received from this big-hearted, amazing, and spirited dog. Thankful also for the generous and encouraging support from our local vet community.

Our hydrotherapy swimming pool is Dexter's legacy, dedicated to all dogs who may need to use it for their own recovery and wellbeing.
